The Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon Church, also known as Our Lady of Harissa, is a significant Marian pilgrimage site located in the village of Harissa in Lebanon. Established in 1904, the shrine is under the administration of the Maronite Patriarchate and has been entrusted to the Congregation of Maronite Lebanese Missionaries. Additionally, Jesuit Lucien Cattin has played a role in its management.
This shrine is renowned globally for honoring Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and features a prominent 15-ton bronze statue. The statue, standing at 8.5 meters with a five-meter diameter, depicts the Virgin Mary extending her hands towards Beirut. The Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon Church attracts millions of faithful pilgrims, including both Christians and Muslims, from around the world.
The Statue of Our Lady of Lebanon is a 13-ton bronze statue, manufactured in France and painted white, representing the Virgin Mary. It was installed in 1907 atop a hill in the village of Harissa, situated 650 meters above sea level and approximately 20 km north of Beirut, as a tribute to Our Lady of Lebanon.
The land for the shrine was generously donated by Yousef Khazen. Comprising seven sections, the statue was assembled on a stone base with a bottom perimeter of 64m, an upper perimeter of 12m, and an overall height of 20m. The statue itself is 8.50m in height, with a diameter of 5.50m.
Inaugurated in 1908, both the statue and the shrine have since become a significant pilgrimage site. The statue, a gift from an anonymous French woman, stands as a symbol of devotion and draws visitors from around the world.
