Sydney Olympic Park is a suburb of Greater Western Sydney and is located 13 kilometers west of the Sydney CBD in the local government of the city of Parramatta. It is commonly known as Olympic Park but is officially called Sydney Olympic Park.

When the Europeans arrived in 1788, the Homebush Bay area was part of the traditional lands of the Wanngal clan. Various encounters and conflicts between Europeans and Aboriginal people are documented in the Homebush Bay area in the 1790s. By the early 19th century Aboriginal people (perhaps from the Wanngal clan) were working and providing fish for the Europeans in the area. No evidence for describing aboriginal people living in the Homebush Bay area years after the 1810s.
However, this is the subject of ongoing research as part of the Aboriginal Connections and History Program, a long-term program to document Aboriginal connections to Homebush Bay before and after the arrival of Europeans. The site was also given the name "Liberty Plains" but referred to the higher, drier land along the Parramatta Road and the first group of free rather than convict settlers who established farms there in 1793.
The first European settler was Thomas Laycock (1756 -1809) who was granted 40 acres between Parramatta Road and Homebush Bay in October 1794. As part of the area`s regeneration plan, North Lidcombe was renamed "Homebush Bay" in honor of the bay in 1989 North and East. After 1992 the slaughterhouse site was occupied by various organizations which eventually became the Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA).
With the successful conclusion of the 2000 Olympic Games, Sydney Olympic Park has undergone a significant amount of development work to support its transformation into a multi-use facility with several businesses relocating to the area.
