Strathfield is a suburb in the inner west of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is 12 kilometers west of Sydney`s CBD and is the administrative center of the Strathfield community. Moreover, a small portion of the suburb north of the railroad is in Canada City Bay, while the area east of The Boulevard is in Burwood Township. Moreover, North Strathfield and South Strathfield are separate suburbs north and south, respectively.
According to the 2016 census data, Strathfield had a population of 25,813. Of these, 50.1% were men and 49.9% were women.
The district of Strathfield lies between Concord Plains to the north and the Cooks River to the south and was originally inhabited by the Wangal clan. European settlement in present-day Strathfield began in 1793 with land grants in the area of the "Liberty Plains," an area encompassing present-day Strathfield and surrounding areas where the first free settlers received land grants.
In 1808 James Wilshire, which forms most of what is now the suburb of Strathfield, was awarded a bursary. Moreover, this concession was bounded by The Boulevarde, Chalmers Street, and Liverpool Road. Moreover, the allotment of 1 square kilometer (0.39 sq mi) of Wiltshire by Governor Macquarie in 1808 [re-granted 1810] followed the representations of Lord Nelson, a relative of Wilshire by marriage.
However, to the west, the Wiltshire Grant bordered on territory granted to the Church of England in 1823 to support the clergy in the colony which comprised the western part of what is now Strathfield and Flemington (Homebush West).
Ownership of the Wiltshire Grant was transferred to ex-convict Samuel Terry in 1824. Moreover, the land came to be known as the Redmire Estate, which, according to Michael Jones, might have been named after his hometown in (Redmire) in North Yorkshire, England, or "the red clay of the Strathfield area".
