Floral Care - Looking after your cut flowers
Receiving flowers is always a special gift and FlowerCity wants to make sure
you enjoy them as long as possible.
We have put together a list of simple steps to make sure your flowers stay healthy
and beautiful.
- Cut each stem under water and arrange immediately in a clean
non-metallic vase filled with warm water and
contents of the floral preservative package included with your flowers. Cutting
them underwater will prevent
air pockets from forming in the stem which will slow down the process of water
and food reaching the whole flower.
- Your flowers will be dehydrated upon arrival due to the shipping process.
Adding them to water as soon as possible
will help them regain their beauty and will eliminate a "drooping"
look.
- Remove any foliage that would be touched by water as wet leaves can cause
bacteria to grow.
- Keep your flowers away from drafts, direct sunlight and excessive heat or
cold.
- Add fresh water every day to within 1" of the top of the vase.
- Re-cut stems every other day.
Special Advice for Roses
- One at a time
Place each individual rose stem in a vase immediately after cutting. Do not
place roses aside during the
cutting process. This might cause them to droop prematurely.
- When roses droop prematurely
Cut the stems at an angle 2" above the base under water and soak the
rose (stem and bud) horizontally
in warm water for about 1 hour, sure the stem is straight. You should now
have a revived rose.
